We work in Cheshire and North Staffordshire, and can offer the following:
Mindfulness-Based Approaches to Stress Reduction
We offer a weekly class, run over eight weeks, based on the programme developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, during which you will be invited to take part in various exercises, including sitting and moving meditations, reflections and a daily journal. Commitment to a practice of just forty-five minutes each day during the eight weeks is essential for you to gain the full benefit of the course, and we would encourage you to make that commitment to yourself and to your health and peace of mind. MBSR is normally taught in a group, and works very well in that format, but if you prefer to work individually, we can tailor a course to your specific needs.
Have you sometimes thought you’d like to try meditation, but feel you couldn’t possibly sit still for any length of time? Sitting still on a meditation cushion or on a chair isn’t for everyone. But that doesn’t mean we can’t meditate. Hatha Yoga, Kum Nyé (Tibetan Yoga) and Feldenkrais are very powerful methods of bringing the whole of the body and mind together, allowing us, for a period of time, to calm our often chaotic stream of thoughts and worries; to find lessons for life in the movement; to get ‘out of our minds’ and into our bodies – something we previously may not have been able to do.
What is meditation? There are lots of ideas about what meditation is and what it isn’t. Many people say that they ‘can’t meditate’, or that something so ‘simple’ can’t possibly be helpful. Here is a chance to explore what meditation means for you, and whether it might be of benefit as you go about your daily life. We will be looking at traditional meditation methods, whose power lies in their simplicity. There are some misconceptions about meditation, and we hope to be able to clarify any questions you might have, and put your mind at … ease …
Mindfulness in relationships
Our relationships, whether at work, in the family, or with an intimate partner, can be transformed by simply paying attention, as well as recognising the fact that we are all interconnected. Using exercises from Hakomi, a method of mindfulness-based assisted self-discovery, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and Focusing, we will be re-discovering the innate goodness in ourselves and others and seeing how the perspective of positive regard and loving presence, which may be new to us, can radically alter our way of relating with our fellow beings, and with ourselves. With simple but very powerful techniques, we can learn to kindly acknowledge those parts of us that may have helped and protected us in the past, but which are now holding us back, and allow our true, empowered selves to emerge.
The healing power of touch cannot be underestimated. In a safe and mindful environment, we can offer you relaxing treatments, from head to foot, to suit your present needs: Indian Head Massage, Swedish Body Massage, Reflexology, Breema and Shiatsu.
