Mindfulness Skills for Everyday Life

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction are programmes designed to alleviate the stress, anxiety and depression we often feel in the face of life’s difficulties, that have been widely approved by the international medical community, including NICE in the UK. Rooted in ancient traditions of meditation, and incorporating elements of CBT, we teach simple ways to relate to thoughts and feelings more effectively. Research has consistently shown that mindfulness can help us to enjoy greater well-being. The courses invite you to use simple meditation techniques and gentle movement, to notice thoughts, emotions or sensations that arise and to learn to be more present to your experience. The courses have no religious content.

Courses suspended until further notice. Please contact us if you would be interested in participating in an online course in the New Year.

MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION

We offer an 8 week course, based on the programme developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts, during which you will be invited to take part in various exercises, including sitting and moving meditations, reflections and a daily journal. Commitment to a practice of just forty-five minutes each day during the eight weeks is essential for you to gain the full benefit of the course, and we would encourage you to make that commitment to yourself and to your health and peace of mind. MBSR is normally taught in a group, and works very well in that format, but if you prefer to work individually, we can tailor a course to your specific needs.

The cost is cost is just £250, and includes: 8 two-hour sessions, meditation downloads, a full set of handouts, plus telephone and email support for the duration of the course. The course will be held in a venue in Crewe or Nantwich, at a venue to be confirmed (online for the foreseeable future), which can accommodate a small group safely, while adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.

NB - We are members of the Blue Light Card scheme (https://www.bluelightcard.co.uk) . If you work in the NHS or another Emergency Service, a discount is available. Please contact us for more details.

MINDFUL MOVEMENT AND MEDITATION

Have you sometimes thought you’d like to try meditation, but feel you couldn’t possibly sit still for any length of time? Meditation can be surprisingly simple, but, especially at first, sitting still on a cushion or on a chair for a while doesn't appeal to everyone. But that doesn’t mean we can’t meditate. Hatha Yoga, Kum Nyé (Tibetan Yoga), Chi Gung and Feldenkrais are very powerful methods of bringing the whole of the body and mind together, allowing us, for a period of time, to calm our often chaotic stream of thoughts and worries; to find lessons for life in the movement; to get ‘out of our minds’ and into our bodies – something we previously may not have been able to do. The movements are very slow, safe and gentle, but please consult a health professional if you have any doubts about your ability to participate.

The online cost is just £5.00 per one-hour class.

MINDFULNESS-BASED RELAPSE PREVENTION

8 week course

Designed to develop mindful awareness in those of us who have found ourselves trapped in habits and cycles of addictive behaviour. Many of us have an addiction of one sort or another, whether it be work, shopping, sex, gambling, caffeine, alcohol, or any number of other things. With mindfulness, we can learn how to take a pause, discover our triggers and destructive patterns of thought and behaviour, and choose healthier alternatives.

INDIVIDUAL MINDFULNESS-BASED SELF-DISCOVERY FOLLOW-UP COACHING SESSIONS

Participants on our courses sometimes want to continue their work with mindfulness on a one-to-one basis. Incorporating elements of Hakomi, Focusing, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and with mindfulness at its core, Self-Discovery can offer a gentle way to study ourselves - our sometimes destructive habits and automatic reactions - by looking at the parts of us that have been put in place to protect us in the past, but are no longer serving us effectively. This is a healing method that can enable us to forgive ourselves and others for past hurts; to see past apparent blocks in relationships and life aspirations, and enable us to live more fully in the present.
